Modern Movement: Contemporary Dance Intensive

Adult Series; August 6 - 9     Kids Series; August 3 - 7     Taught by: Elizabeth McGuire

Adult Series: Open to all levels of experience, all ages, all body types: 100% inclusive and ALL are welcome to come DANCE! This class will introduce the fundamentals of contemporary dance technique, and also will encourage participants to explore and have fun within the structure of learning movement. Beginning with a warm up implementing elements of ballet, modern, and jazz dance, the class will gain strength and body awareness through this challenging but accessible warm up. Then, participants will work on a choreographed routine. Students will work on picking up choreography, memorizing movement, and most importantly how to put performance energy onto the movement, putting their own spin on the steps. Each day we will "add on" to the choreography so that by the end of the session, the class will have learned choreography set to a full song! It's all fun and discovery here, a place to work on dance technique, no matter what level, and also to explore performance and presence while working on choreography

Adult Series Workshop Fee: $275

Kids' Series: Similar to the adult series, this class welcomes Middle School and High School students of all levels of experience (and of course students of all body types!!). The class will introduce the fundamentals of contemporary and theater dance technique, giving the students exposure to the current theatrical and contemporary dance that is happening in current Broadway shows. This is a great start or practice for those students interested in taking part in their school's musical. Beginning with a warm up implementing elements of ballet, modern, and jazz dance, the class will gain strength and body awareness through this challenging but accessible warm up. Then, participants will work on a choreography. Students will work on picking up and performing a choreographed performance: memorizing the movement, and most importantly finding performance energy, portraying the story within the steps. Each day we will "add on" to the choreography so that by the end of the session, the class will have learned choreography set to a full song! Like the adult series, this is a FUN and open place for discovery and exploration where students can work on their dance technique, and their presence while performing dance!
