KIDS ART THEME PARTY
Ages: 5-12    (minimum of 6 kids and maximum of 20 kids)
Cost: Minimum base fee of $150.00 for 6-10 kids, with an additional $15.00 per child over 10 kids, plus $10.00 materials fee per child unless otherwise specified. 20 kids maximum. NOTE: materials fee is subject to change depending on the scope of the project selected.

ART THEME PARTY
Times/Dates: June or July
Ages: 5-12    (minimum of 5 kids and maximum of 15 kids)
Cost: Minimum base fee of $150.00 for 6-10 kids plus $5.00 material fee per child. An additional $15.00 per child over 10 kids plus $5.00 material fee. Maximum 20 kids. No charge for adult helpers.

Looking for a fun way to have celebrate a child's birthday? Have an art birthday party !  Projects are pix descriptiondependent on age range.

Your child's party will be approximately 1 hour of art (depending on project and age range ) and 1 hour of party!

NOTE: Decorations, invitations, drinks and food will be your responsibility. We can provide paper plates and cups and plasticware, unless you want to choose and bring those as well. 

Below are some possible themes for the age group 5-7, if none of these sound like a good fit we can discuss more! 

  • Crowns and Castles! - Crown yourself for the day! We will make paper crowns, decorate them, and paint castles on canvas which can later be framed and hung at home.  ($10 material fee per child)
  • Upcycled Spaceships! - Let your imagination take you to outer space and use recycled materials to build a spaceship! We will create the spaceship of your dreams.....  ($10 material fee per child)
  • Make a cuddly Softie or Sock Puppet - Make a fun character and bring home for hours of imagination play..... ($10 material fee per child)

Below are some possible themes for the age group 8-12, if none of these sound like a good fit we can discuss more! 

  • Mosaics - Use multicolored glass tiles to create an original mosaic! The finished grout-free mosaic will be a ready to hang when you get home! ($10 material fee per child)
  • Soap Dough -Use your imagination as you create an original sculpture made out of soap dough.  Once hardened, it can either be used as real soap,admired as an art piece, or both! ($20 material fee per child)
  • Wires & Weaving - Use sculpting wire to create a star, a fish, heart or your own idea that will pop once you add colorful woven yarn elements! Your finished artwork will be ready to display with its own wooden pedestal. ($12 material fee per child)

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER:
Krista Brownis from Dallas, Texas where she began her education journey pursuing an Art Education degree from TCU. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a BA and concentration in ceramics.

Krista's experience teaching art has ranged from developing homeschool arts curriculum to teaching summer art camps and general kids art classes in Texas and New York.

While in Cazenovia, Krista has developed art programming and taught children ages 2-5 for three years at Rippleton Center a preschool in Cazenovia, NY.

Krista is now a full time Teachers Assistant at Burton Street Elementary School in Cazenovia. Additionally, she is teaching the summer art program, art birthday parties and kids art classes through CazArts.

Sue Parker
is inspired by nature, she uses wool to create practical and useful items, merging her love for creativity with the natural world. Susan is passionate about sharing knowledge and teaching others about the many facets of wool fibers.

Michelle Burnett, a trained veterinarian, stumbled upon the art of felting during a recent trip to Australia, igniting a newfound creative spark within her. Since then, she has been enthusiastically exploring the diverse possibilities of this craft, captivated by its endless creative avenues.

Together, Susan Parker and Michelle Burnett are thrilled to unite their expertise and passion for the ancient art of wool felting.

Calling all gardeners! Create a unique mosaic planter from a common cement block or earthenware planter (10-12 inch) to enhance your patio or landscape. We will create mosaics using a variety of materials such as ceramic tiles, stained glass, broken china, marbles, stones, shells, and more; please bring some items to share!

The first day we will focus on design and layout using color, value and texture. The second day we will grout. Participants will leave with a finished mosaic planter and the knowledge of how to mosaic on your own!pix description

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER:
Lisa Portnoff
graduated from Parsons School of Design, and has been a ceramic artist for many years, specializing in custom ceramic tiles, mosaics, and sculptures, often for historic restoration and public art projects. Her work can be seen in many homes, NYC subway stations, and other locations across the country.

This class will focus on using watercolor to paint an architectural scene. If weather permits we will be painting in the town of Cazenovia. If not, we will paint using Google Earth.

Dan will help you use perspective and attention to detail to lay out a scene with pencil and use values & color to create depth while painting. Among many other topics important to the art of watercolor painting, students will learn:

  • Use perspective to draw a realistic world
  • Decide when to include detail and when to leave it them out
  • Colors & values beyond what you see
  • Straying from reality to improve the painting!

is a New York based artist inspired to make pictures that blend reality with a cup of fantasy, a pinch of exaggeration, a sprinkle of dreams, and a quart of wonder. Dan's degree is in Mechanical Engineering, but he has always enjoyed art. His earliest artistic interests were cartoons and illustration since way before he can remember. He has been Plein air painting since 2015, focusing on urban settings in Central NY. These paintings have been shown in the Everson Museum, Onondaga Historical Association, and Gandee Gallery. He has taught Plein air watercolor painting through various venues in Syracuse, NY and workshops at the Everson Museum.

We will practice painting skyscapes from photographic references using watercolor and gouache. The focus will be on simplicity and bold brushwork. Knowing how to add a dramatic sky to watercolor landscapes is an indispensable tool to have in your arsenal of techniques.pix description

Lucie Wellner is a central New York State artist who has been painting using watercolors since 1997. Her formal training is in Surface Pattern design, which led to 15 years of designing dinnerware. Lucie has taught since 2010, privately and also through the Everson and Open Figure Drawing programs. She was raised and still lives in a part of the state that has an abundance of rolling hills, dairy farms, woods, fields, wildflowers and trees; their presence influences her daily life and painting.

Design and fabricate your own original fashions using various materials and embellishments. All will be sized for a fashion doll that you will get to take home! We will also craft accessories and decorate shirts and hats! The week ends with you getting to share your work with family and friends. Due to the material heavy nature of this week, there is a slightly larger materials fee. Participants should be comfortable with scissors and cutting fabric. There will be plastic needles available and glue if they decide not to sew.

is from Dallas, Texas where she began her education journey pursuing an Art Education degree from TCU. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a BA and concentration in ceramics.

Krista's experience teaching art has ranged from developing homeschool arts curriculum to teaching summer art camps and general kids art classes in Texas and New York.

While in Cazenovia, Krista has developed art programming and taught children ages 2-5 for three years at Rippleton Center a preschool in Cazenovia, NY.

Krista is now a full time Teachers Assistant at Burton Street Elementary School in Cazenovia. Additionally, she is teaching the summer art program, art birthday parties and kids art classes through CazArts.

What can you make with cardboard? The possibilities are endless! We will explore the use of different textures and 3-D construction techniques as we create cardboard self-portraits, build our own "technology," construct and furnish small imaginary spaces, and possibly explore making cardboard cuisine. At the end of the week your friends and family are invited to see what you have accomplished.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER:
Clair Joyce
is currently the Art teacher for Huntingdon and Roberts Elementary and Middle School in Syracuse, NY. She is an artist who utilizes many techniques! She received her BFA in Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute, and an MFA in Painting from University of Georgia where she perfected a method of "painting" using Elmer's glue and glitter. She was artistic director at Paul Mesner Puppets where she built puppets and sets.

Claire has written online columns for both ReadyMade Magazine and CRAFT, and has built and designed costumes and puppets for the stage as well as maintained a studio life working in two dimensions. In addition to participating in residencies within the United States, Belgium and China, her work has been shown both nationally and internationally. She currently lives in Syracuse, NY where she runs a small portrait business (www.tinytwohourportaits.com) and sews with (and for) her children.

  • We cannot issue a refund unless we can fill your slot.
  • We cannot issue a refund if a student misses any session of a multiday class.
  • If any sessions are cancelled by the instructor, we will either issue a refund or reschedule the cancelled session.
  • If the course is completely cancelled for any reason, you will be issued a full refund.

PARKING for Carpenter's Barn

IMPORTANT NOTE – Driving up the gravel driveway to Carpenter's Barn is no longer allowed for any reason.

Parking is available just inside the entrance of Lakeland Park (go west at the Brae Loch traffic light). You can walk on the sidewalk or on the gravel driveway to Carpenter's Barn.

Other parking is also available nearby (e.g., on Carpenters Street across the street from Carpenters Barn).

If you need assistance or have special needs, you may drive up to be dropped off in front of the Barn on Forman St (Rt 20) by pulling in at the garage door/overhang to unload. The car must be moved after unloading.
