Join artist Claire Joyce as she demonstrates a variety of stitches and methods for visible mending and hand sewn embellishments. Our first class will cover various stitches and techniques, which we will practice on handmade patches. After we get our hands used to working, everyone will decide on their own projects to personalize or repair. Come learn a skill that is useful, thrifty, personal, and fashionable!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER:
Claire Joyce is an artist who utilizes many techniques! She received her BFA in Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute, and an MFA in Painting from University of Georgia where she perfected a method of "painting" using Elmer's glue and glitter. She was artistic director at Paul Mesner Puppets where she built puppets and sets. Claire has written online columns for both ReadyMade Magazine and CRAFT, and has built and designed costumes and puppets for the stage as well as maintained a studio life working in two dimensions. In addition to participating in residencies within the United States, Belgium and China, her work has been shown both nationally and internationally. She currently lives in Syracuse, NY where she runs a small portrait business (tinytwohourportaits.com) and sews with (and for) her children.

Learn about felting before the snow flies! An art form you can take home and enjoy doing all winter long. We will be learning two different felting techniques in these classes, wet felting and needle felting. Using needle felting in the first session and wet felting in the second session, this beginner's class will blend whimsy and utility into handmade gifts. Join textile lover Rebecca McElheny for an introduction to this easy and meditative craft.

Session One: Needle felting can be so fulfilling!  Bring your shrunken wool clothing to repurpose into handmade items for the holidays. Instructor will bring additional wool and materials.

Session Two: Wet felting is just as creative and practical!  Join us for making dryer balls, coasters, and felt covered soaps.  These are great gifts to make and give.

The materials fee ($10) includes the basic tools to take home.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER:
Becky McElheny
can make something out of a pile of nothing. She got her BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA.  Becky maintains a homestead in Fenner where she raises cows, rabbits, food, flowers and recycles every bit of fabric into a new creation. From Becky, " Textiles have always held my fascination. They tell a story.  Gram's quilts kept me warm. Mom's crocheted doll clothes made my Barbies look so fashionable. The 4-H sewing club fostered clothing construction skills in me as a teen. I found knitting and felting as a young mother, now I am enamored with cutting up felted clothing for new projects.  Wool Rules!!"
